HOWTIAN Granted Core D-Glucuronolactone Patent in Japan Strengthening Global IP Portfolio

New patent recognizes HOWTIAN’s innovative biosynthetic pathway for producing glucuronic acid and glucuronolactone
13 Jul 2026

HOWTIAN has reached another important milestone in its global intellectual property strategy with the granting of a core invention patent in Japan for its D-Glucuronolactone technology. On 8 June 2026, HOWTIAN’s invention patent, “A Preparation Method for Glucuronic Acid and Glucuronolactone,” was officially granted in Japan.

The patent centers on HOWTIAN’s innovative production process for D-Glucuronolactone, which is produced from inositol through a safe, eco-friendly process. D-Glucuronolactone is a highly water-soluble white powder with strong compatibility across a wide range of applications, including food, beverages, health supplements and cosmetics.

At the heart of the innovation is HOWTIAN’s pioneering biosynthetic pathway for glucuronolactone using inositol as the substrate. This approach represents a breakthrough alternative to conventional manufacturing routes, reconstructing metabolic pathways at the source to support improvements in conversion efficiency, product purity and sustainable manufacturing.

“Our customers are looking for ingredient partners that can deliver both innovation and supply confidence. This patent demonstrates the investment HOWTIAN has made in developing proprietary technologies that improve manufacturing efficiency while supporting consistent quality and sustainability. It strengthens the foundation of our D-Glucuronolactone portfolio as we continue expanding our functional ingredient offerings worldwide.”

Wendy Wang, Inositol Sales Director

The patent marks an important expansion of HOWTIAN’s global intellectual property layout and reinforces the company’s continued investment in advanced biomanufacturing technologies. To strengthen its core technical barriers, HOWTIAN has built an independent IP portfolio covering key links in the production process, including strain construction, fermentation processes and purification technologies.
